Our Need for Hope – Dec. 03

Meditation for the Soul ~

Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion,
and to you shall vows be performed.
O you who hear prayer,
to you shall all flesh come.
By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness,
O God of our salvation,
the HOPE of all the ends of the earth.
~Psalm 65: 1-2,5~

Reflection for the Mind ~

Have you ever thought that before Eve “took of its fruit and ate” (Genesis 3:6), there was no need for HOPE? Eden was home. The earth was ruled by Adam and Eve on God’s behalf, and they had direct access to God. It was a perfect existence! But Adam and Eve’s willful decision was about to put all of humanity at odds with God. There would be nothing we could do to remedy this terrible new reality. We now desperately needed HOPE, and God had no intention of leaving us without it.

The Story of Christmas is the story of the One who would be the HOPE of all the ends of the earth. Many Biblical scholars believe God inferred as much when He addressed the serpent in Genesis 3:15. The need had only just presented itself and God was foreshadowing what He intended to do about it!

God didn’t scramble for a response to our sin. He set in motion a remedy He had established from eternity. That’s supposed to blow our minds! The fall of humanity did not catch God off His game! The Christ Child was always going to be the one who would deliver us from death and bring us HOPE.

Response for the Heart ~

Lord, thank You for knowing from eternity what it is I would need and for planning for it before the need ever arose. Thank You for putting the remedy in place. Thank You for giving me HOPE though the arrival of the Christ Child. Grow in me a sense of anticipation as Christmas approaches! Thank You for being my salvation and my HOPE! Help me to put that HOPE on display as I live out the day before me!

Thank you Anne for your beautiful Advent series and taking us straight to Hope today. :) He had this planned all along ... such a delightful comfort to know the loving tenderness of our Heavenly Father ... all planned for all of eternity. W.O.W.

I was just reading Hebrews 11... particularly in v26 Moses "He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward." Yes Moses had faith as described.... but it's interesting that he also had the Hope of Christ, long before Jesus was born... further proof that God's salvation in Christ for us, was always His plan! And further proof of His unfathomable love for us! Thank you Anne for stirring our hearts and minds with this devotional!

Hi Anne! I think that HOPE is one of the greatest gifts the Lord has given us. I can't even imagine life without the HOPE of eternity with Him, and knowing all of "this too shall pass". Thank you for these wonderful daily reminders! Love you! Michelle Samaritan's Purse

Thank you, Michelle - It is maybe our most precious gift from the Lord, to know with certainty that His promises are sure!
